PORT WASHINGTON, NY – Safavieh will host a meet and greet with celebrity designer Thom Filicia from 2:30 – 3:30 PM on Monday, Oct. 15 in its Historic Market Square showroom, suite 120. The event celebrates the upcoming launch of Filicia’s new decorating book “American Beauty” scheduled for release on Nov.13 in New York City.
Festivities include photo ops with the Filicia, and guests will receive bookmarks illustrated with images of Filicia’s vegetable-dyed hemp rugs for Safavieh, which the designer will sign. Refreshments will be served.
Filicia and Safavieh have extended a special invitation to Sustainable Furnishings Council members to the party, which is listed in the SFC Shop Sustainable map and Guide to Green at High Point Market.
A member of SFC, which has designated him a DESIGNINGreen Leader, Filicia has incorporated the eco-friendly rugs he designed for Safavieh in his Skaneateles Lake, NY home, which is the subject of ‘American Beauty’, a combination memoir and decorating guide.

According to Cyrus Yaraghi, Safavieh principal, the company’s High Point introductions represent a major expansion in eco-friendly rugs. In addition to new SKUs in Filicia’s ikat hemp collection and his outdoor rugs crafted of yarns from recycled plastic bottles, the company has added 28 designs to the Safavieh Natural Fiber collection. “Our yarns are hemp or jute depending on the design, and our new rugs feature fashion colors from purple to charcoal gray. We will also introduce chunky textures in sisal for a luxury designer look,” Yaraghi said.
Safavieh will serve breakfast and lunch, and host late afternoon wine and cheese happy hour daily during market.
